Blind Gardener Grows More Than Just Veggies
Blind Gardener Grows More Than Just Veggies

Dennis Cooksey may be blind, but he does not let that stop him from growing a new sense of hope for those who are sight impared, as well as a garden full of vegetables.
Three years ago he set up an allotment gardening group for blind and partially sighted people to grow their own produce with the help of Thrive, one of the charities that will benefit from this year’s London Times Christmas Appeal. One of Thrive’s missions is to help those who have become disabled through an accident or illness to get their life back through gardening.
Mr. Cooksey earned the title of Thrive and RNIB’s Inspirational Blind Gardener of the Year in 2006.

3rd Grader
Today I meet this third grader while I was eating lunch. A friend of mine told me that he was a hero. I don't know how long ago this had taken place. What happened was that this 3rd graders house caught on fire. The third grader went outside and while he was standing outside he noticed that his grandfather was not there. So he went back inside the burning building and helped his grandfather outside of the burning building. The kid suffered some burns but he saved his grandfather's life.
I asked him if he though he was a hero.
The kid said "no".
I think this show's how compassionate people can be. When they face some serious obstacles they run at them head on.

Great poem
The Marine stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as brightly as his brass.
Step forward now, you Marine,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?
The Marine squared his shoulders and said,
No, Lord, I guess I aint
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasnt mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here,
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If youve a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you dont, I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Marine waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God,
Step forward now, you Marine,
Youve borne your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heavens streets,
Youve done your time in Hell.
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as brightly as his brass.
Step forward now, you Marine,
How shall I deal with you?
