In The Beginning..., Empty In The Beginning...,

It started out as an idea. Make BioDiesel. Problem, need constant supply of vegetable oil. Idea, make vegetable oil. Problem, how?

I found out last night!!! Here is the Logistics of my plan(small one).
=====================================================================================

This Matrix is to simply provide electricity for a family of four for a year and do so in as efficient manner as possible. Lets get started.

A 5,000 Watt or 5KW generator can be bought for about $700 (be sure you get the one that runs on diesel). There are 365 days/52 weeks in a year and 24 hours a day. Each 2 gallons of fuel will run about four hours. So you will need 12 gallons of fuel per day / 84 gallons a week / 4500 gallons a year.

A 1 acre crop of corn will yield about 500 gallons of biodiesel. So you will need to find 9 acres of land to plant and harvest if you want to grow it all at one planting. I would prefer to have three acres and worry with it every four months. Plus you will need room for your food crop.

While you are waiting for your crop to grow you will need to fabricate a mechanical press. This will be how you squeeze the corn and extract the oil. This should be constructed of either thick hardwood or metal. Metal is preffered. It can be round or rectangular or anyshape you choose. It should be able to hold ten gallons of corn kernels uncompressed. You may also choose to purchase one ($12k for a 55 gallon press). A welder should be able to make one out of some 24 inch diameter pipe, threaded rod, bar stock, plate and of course his welder for about $100 - $200 dollars. You could also rent a welder and do it yourself.

So now you have your crop and its all shelled thanks to your local farm co-op. You simply pour corn into the press until it is about two inches below the rim of the press. You then turn the handle until you notice a liquid coming out. Allow this to collect in a container(I recomend a clean 5 gallon bucket). Repeat this process until you have filled the five gallon bucket to within 2 inches from the top. Then cover bucket with thin cotton cloth and set it outside in the sun. Check on it in 3 days. The yellowish thick substance on top is your oil.

Now process your corn oil according to the biodiesel procedure. Pour completed biodiesel into generator.
===================================================================================

Disclaimer: The above is not for the faint of heart. It requires commitment and dedication to following through. The above process has been abridged slightly.

===================================================================================

Addendum: Alabama currently has three facilities that press cottonseed into oil. Corn, soybean, peanuts, and cottonseed are suitable for making oil for biodiesel. You could simply purchase a tank load of oil and process it for biodiesel.
