TIDBITS!!! For the will to survive!
TIDBITS!!! For the will to survive!
The will to survive is the basest of all human instincts. Herein are a few hints to help along the way! Read, ponder, and enjoy! - Anything that a bird or animal can eat, you can eat too! This includes tree bark, roasted acorns, grasses, roots, seeds, etc. (Have patience, and watch what they eat!)
- Anything live, you can eat. (This includes snakes, insects, worms, etc..)
- Willow tree bark is where aspirin comes from.
- Beech tree bark can be used as a bandage (using the cambium layer)
- Spider web can be used as a bandage (60 times stronger than silk!)
- One of the deadliest leaves to humans is the potato leaf. (DO NOT EAT!)
- The greener the leaf … the deadlier the plant. (Too much Vitamin A)
- A single root is deadly. A branched out root is edible.
- Following a nuclear attack… If no Iodine Sulfate is available, consume large quantities of iodized salt to combat radiation poison. (Bad for your blood pressure, but you are trying to survive the radiation!)
- For chemical attack … if no atropine is available, consume large amounts of grass! Atropine is one of the chemicals in grass. Especially fescue grass (What hay is made of)
- Blood is a universal product, (Digestible) in the sense that you can live off the nutrients contained therein. (The Mongols [Genghis Khan] would slit the throat of a horse, drink some of the blood, then seal up the incision, to survive when food was scarce.)
- Fish loses half of its nutrients when cooked.
- Tree bark, placed in water, will help to purify it (the water, that is).
- Remain calm, breathe deep!
- Birds that fly have more nutrients than birds that do not fly.
- You do not need a hook to catch fish! Close to the shoreline … build a basic open top box trap from stones, etc. just below the surface. Place a piece of food into the box. When a fish swims into the box to get the food, scoop the fish out and onto the bank.
- If you are stalking animals around a body of water, stay below them. Animals always look up for danger!
- In a jungle, running water almost always contains leeches! Stagnant water is healthier than running water as long as you have a way to sanitize it!
- Snake bite! Ice on a snake bite solidifies the venom allowing the venom to be cut out with the least amount of tissue damage. Snake bites rarely bleed (puncture wound) unless the bite is on an artery! If the bite is to an artery … apply a tourniquet, and KEEP IT TIGHT!
- Rats taste just like squirrels. (Rats and squirrels are in the same family.)

Yes... good info.
On a lighter note, my dog sometimes eats her own vomit... Don't think I'll be eating any off that though.Boats wrote: Anything that a bird or animal can eat, you can eat too!
