This is truly a tragidy to see something like this take place. I always believe that the US likes to exploit event's in order to get bill's past in the heat of the event and that is what happened with the patriot act. This act needs to be challanged in the supreme court. I do not think that it should apply to US citizen's unless they actually committ an act of terrorism. If this kid did make the bomb threat then I think the police has the right to come knock at your door. I can tell you what that is truly a wake up call when people think that it is okay to joke about stuff like that and then they have 10 gun's pointing at them. Nothing today can be taken for granted. I do think that people do over step their boundaries when it comes to stuff like this and I believe that is what happened. I do think the kid deserves due process; since, he did not committ the act. That is what is suppose to happen; but, it did not in this case. I wish the family the best of luck and my heart goes out to them.

It's more than that.
The USA PATRIOT act was supposedly an "emergency measure" to give the gov't the "tools for the job" to go after foreign terrorism threats. A few of us raised the concerns of "isn't that too much power?" and "what's to stop this from being used against our own citizens?"
"Oh, no...that will NEVER happen," they screamed back. "This is for a limited scope and look! see? It even has a sundown clause! No sweat!"
We knew at the time that it was a bunch of bullsh*t.
This is why I won't vote republican. I'm sorry, Stryker. I know you said we need to stop dividing our vote and start voting for the "lesser of two evils" but I just can't. The Bush administration did more to destroy our rights to autonomy, privacy due process/justice and first amendment liberties in EIGHT YEARS than even *I* thought possible.
This is not just about Habeas Corpus for threats foreign or domestic now; this is a blank check for the government to profile, spy, discriminate against, discredit, tag, track and even IMPRISON you on your own home soil for "suspicious" behavior...all in the name of "Homeland Security."
I voted Bob Barr in the last election and I will continue to vote for a third-party candidate who RESPECTS the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights until more of us "get onboard." If our cause truly is one of the ignored, neglected cries of the American majority, then we need to keep pushing that majority to settle for NOTHING LESS. I will not accept a compromise where liberty STILL remains on the chopping block on the RIGHT side instead of the left. To me, that is shaking hands with the devil you know instead of the one you don't. It's still shaking hands with the devil.
We need to get these screw-ups out. ALL of them. It is RIGHTEOUS and it is time. There shall be no hiding places and no leniency.
Thank you.
